A.J. Acevedo (Kevin - IN THE HEIGHTS / George - RAISING IN THE SUN / Mayor - THE WIZARD OF OZ)
Mr. Acevedo holds a MS Ed. and a BS from Lehman College. His performance credits include leading roles in SLUMS OF NEVERLAND, MIND OF A CHILD; LIV N’ DEAD; COLLAPSING UNIVERSE and LIFE O’LOGUES. He was Oz in the Yip Harburg Foundation’s Rainbow Troupe’s Off-off Broadway production of THE WIZARD OF OZ. Mr. Acevedo played the Groom in a bilingual productions of BLOOD WEDDINGS/BODAS DE SANGRE and worked with Karina Casiano’s La Criatura, in her original productions, COLONIA 2007 and SILENCE IS HEALTH/SILENCIO ES SALUD. He has appeared in music videos, independent short films and is featured in the 2010 Solomon Starr gospel rap album, ETERNAL LIFE, under the alias Rex Rico. Mr. Aevedo studied acting and dance at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater’s Raul Julia Training Unit. In addition to his work as a professional actor Mr. Acevedo is Recreation Therapy Professor at the City University of New York.
Mario C. Brown (Benny - IN THE HEIGHTS / Walter Lee - A RAISIN IN THE SUN / Cratchit - A HARLEM CHRISTMAS CAROL)
Mario C. Brown has performed leading and supporting roles at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center i, LIFE IS A DREAM, WOYZECK and RESERVOIR DOGS. He played Hugo/Frediec in the FCC Theatre's production of RING AROUND THE MOON and Freeman in the long running Off-off Broadway hit, PLATANOS Y COLLARDGREENS. Mr. Brown has appeared in the films, THE RETRIEVER, AMERICAN GANGSTER, SILVER LINING PLAYBOOK and THE CONVERSATION. In addition to his accomplishments onstage and on screen as an actor Mr. Brown is also a rapper, songwriter trained in Mixed Martial Arts.
Yanece Cotto (Nina - IN THE HEIGHTS / Beneathea - A RAISIN IN THE SUN / Martha - CHRISTMAS CAROL / Witch - THE WIZARD OF OZ)
Ms. Cotto’s performance credits include, Dianna in RING AROUND THE MOON, Ruby in DAMES AT SEA, Judas in GODSPELL and Nora in A DOLL’S HOUSE. Ms. Coto is a resident company member at Theatre West 97. She is currently a student at BMCC, where she is majoring in theater.
Marcus Dargan (AIN'T MISBEHAVIN')
Marcus Dargan is a playwright, teaching artist, arts activist, and the Artistic Director of NuAFrikan Theatre. He is a recipient of the Jacob A. Weiser Playwright Award for his play Dream Deferred, which was nominated for the AUDELCO 2012 Dramatic Production of the Year. He was last seen in the role created by Ken Page in Ain’t Misbehavin’ with the Harlem Repertory Theatre in 2008, a show garnering five AUDELCO Award nominations. Dargan holds an A.S. in Theatre from Borough of Manhattan Community College, and a B.A. in Theatre and M.S. Ed. in Educational Theatre from City College of New York. MarcusDargan.com.
Kyria Geneva (Camila - IN THE HEIGHTS / Ruth - A RAISIN IN THE SUN / Aunt EM - THE WIZARD OF OZ)
Kyria Geneva has always dreamed of becoming a successful professional actress. What drew this New York native to become an actress was her first performance experience at Aaron Davis Hall in My Fathers Will at the age of twelve. After performing in this production Ms. Geneva knew that acting was her passion for which she had a special gift. Ms. Geneva has been in numerous productions including the HRT’s Audelco Award winning version of THE WIZ and DREAMGIRLS. She has also done film work for The Los Angeles Art Institute, SiTV in Los Angeles, California and New Line Productions. Ms. Geneva is also a playwright and director. She is a theatre major at The City College of New York. Knowing that her gift came from God inspires Ms. Geneva to strive to achieve her goal. She is a young woman with high expectation and countless ambition who will no doubt reach her dream of becoming “one of this world’s greatest actresses”. “dream big, the sky is the limit”.
Mabel Gomez (Daniella/ Carla - IN THE HEIGHTS / Assistant Choreographer)
Mabel Gomez is a resident actress and the assistant choreographer for the Harlem Repertory Theatre Company. Being formally trained at the Alvin Ailey School of Dance, the City College of New York’s Theatre Department and the Revolucion Latina Beyond Series Workshops has enabled her to excel at her passion for the Arts as a performer and instructor. Ms. Gomez taught dance at The Children’s Aid Society and CUNY’s College Now Theatre program. As a member of the HRT for almost ten years, Ms. Gomez has performed in THE WIZ, CABARET, WEST SIDE STORY, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, DREAMGIRLS, A CHORUS LINE, YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN ,TAMBOURINES TO GLORY, HAIR, SWEET CHARITY and FLAHOOLEY (OFF BROADWAY). While obtaining her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from CCNY, Ms. Gomez has managed to perform in several musical theatre productions. She is currently an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at The City College of New York.
Roberto A. Guzman Jr. (Usnavi - IN THE HEIGHTS / Marley - A HARLEM CHRISTMAS CAROL)
Mr. Guzman is a born native of The Bronx, Roberto, had for years been exemplifying his natural abilities to entertain only through the form of song writing. It wasn't until he met Keith Grant, founder of The Harlem Repertory Theatre, and Julio Matos that Roberto began to make plans to further his acting career first-- specifically within musical theatre. Usnavi (IN THE HEIGHTS), The Lion (THE WIZ), Sylvester (FLAHOOLEY) and Oscar (SWEET CHARITY) are some a few of his most favorable roles. Her other credits include FOR COLORED GIRLS…, MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM (Ma Rainey), A CHASTE MAID IN CHEAPSIDE, (Maudine) and FIVE ON THE BLACK HAND SIDE (Ruby). Derrick Montalvo (Pete/Sonny - IN THE HEIGHTS / Young Scrooge - A HARLEM CHRISTMAS CAROL / The Scarecrow - THE WIZARD OF OZ)
Derrick Montalvo appeared in the HRT's 2009 award winning production of THE WIZ. He is an accomplished dancer who has performed with and choreographed for leading New York City dance companies. The HRT is overjoyed to have Mr. Montalvo back!
Eric Myles (Benny - IN THE HEIGHTS / Scrooge - A HARLEM CHRISTMAS CAROL / Tin Man - THE WIZARD OF OZ)
Eric "Le Roy" Myles is born and raised from Bronx, NY. He is a trained Singer, Dancer, Actor and writer earning his first lead Role Playing Mr. Macafee in Harlem's Repetory's Production of "Bye Bye Birdee". Since his youth, Eric has featured in Several High profileappearances including Performing at Madison Square Garden and post 9/11 Tributes. Eric has also participated in Def Jam Recordings Pre-Internship Program on Artist Develpoment. Inspired by Michael Jackson, Family and Music, Some of his most prominent works include The Scarecrow in Harlem Repertory Theatre’s Off-Broadway production of“The Wiz”, as well as “Flahooley” and The Shining but Troubled Singer, James Thunder Early in HRT's AUDELCO Nominated “Dreamgirls” to Raving Reviews. Eric is Currently seeking representation.
Natalia Peguero (Vanessa - IN THE HEIGHTS / Belle - A HARLEM CHRISTMAS CAROL)
Natalia Peguero's performance credits with the HRT include, Shelia in HAIR, Deena in DREAMGIRLS, Lady Blue and Lady Red in FOR COLORED GIRLS..., Lula in DUTCHMAN, Gloria in TAMBORINES TO GLORY, Amelia in AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', and Anita in WEST SIDE STORY. Other credits include, Queen in THE LIFE (directed by Julio Matos), Sandy in FLAHOOLEY (Theatre For The New City), and Stella in A BRONX CHRISTMAS CAROL, Roy Arias’ SEX ON THE BEACH, directed by Alfred Preisser, background singing for TKA, DLG and Merengue singer Carlos David. Natalia recently participated in Telemundo's singing competition "Yo Soy El Artista". Natalia is also a member of REVOLUCION LATINA and holds a B.A. in Theatre from CCNY.
Taylor Rey Rivera
(Dorothy - THE WIZARD OF OZ)
Taylor-Rey Rivera |T-Rex| is a New York City based young artist who's bubbly personality has been highlighted as "A wonderful addition" to several New York based talk/radio shows. Taylor-Rey recently filmed a pilot for a sitcom called "Whoose Craze". She was also a part of the comedic thriller "Bloody Mary", a short by Jonathan Freidrichs. In "Oliver! The Musical" Taylor-Rey played NANCY in a re-imagined version of the classic set in 1940's Harlem. Most recently she played SWEET DEMON in "Buffy: A Cabaret".
