The Harlem Repertory Theatre will continue its season with its adaptation of the holiday classic by Charles Dickens, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, set in contemporary Harlem. With the combination of a fanciful new update, lush costumes, and a score that includes many of well known Christmas carols and holiday songs, A HARLEM CHRISTMAS CAROL is sure to delight audiences of all ages. The HRT has been performing IN THE HEIGHTS to sold out audiences since March 2016. Don’t miss this vibrant and groundbreaking musical theatrical event this time around! The environmental seating arrangement in the beautiful Tato Laviera Theatre allows the audience to be a part of the action on the stage. The cast sings and dances throughout the four performing areas of the auditorium, often only a few feet away from the audience.

The HRT is honored to once again include Lorraine Hansberry's groundbreaking New York Drama Critics' award-winning drama, A RAISIN IN THE SUN in its current season. The play's social impact transcends generations and cultures with universally recognizable themes and characters. This iconic piece of African American dramatic literature will move audiences of all ages with its passion, humor, and humanity.

In his memoir, The Price Of The Ticket, author and activist James Baldwin expresses that, "Hansberry believed in her soul that art contained the energy necessary to produce action – action she believed was essential to creating social change".

In honor of this musical’s incredible 60th anniversary – the HRT will produce the legendary Broadway treasure, JAMAICA, that made Lena Horne a Broadway star. JAMACIA features a book and score by Yip Harburg and Harold Arlen, the two creative geniuses who created FINIAN’S RAINBOW and THE WIZARD OF OZ! The production’s creative, environmental setting, combined with surprising sets and colorful costumes will bring this forgotten treasure back to New York City for the first time since its 1957 opening on Broadway six decades ago.
