In honor of this musical’s incredible 60th anniversary – the HRT will produce the legendary Broadway treasure, JAMAICA, that made Lena Horne a Broadway star. JAMAICA features a book and score by E.Y. Harburg and Fred Saidy, the creative geniuses who gave us FINIAN’S RAINBOW and a score by E.Y. Harburg and Harold Arlen, the two musical icons who composed THE WIZARD OF OZ! The production’s creative, environmental setting, combined with surprising sets and colorful costumes will bring this forgotten treasure back to New York City for the first time since its 1957 opening on Broadway six decades ago.

This iconic piece of African American dramatic literature will move audiences of all ages with its passion, humor, and humanity.

In his memoir, The Price Of The Ticket, author and activist James Baldwin expresses that, "Hansberry believed in her soul that art contained the energy necessary to produce action – action she believed was essential to creating social change".
